The Pastor Ponders

Being Intentional

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, "Will you give me a drink?"

The Samaritan woman said to him, "You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?"

Jesus asked her, "Go, call your husband and come back."
She said, "I have no husband."

Why did Jesus start this conversation with this woman whom no one would relate to?
What motivated Jesus to talk with her?
What was in Jesus' heart and mind towards her?

Do you care about what Jesus cares about?
Are your priorities like Jesus' priorities?
Are you concerned about peoples' eternal destinies?
Do you care if people know Jesus?

Maybe all we have to do is be a little more intentional about our day. Maybe we can be more open to being like Jesus and start spiritual conversations.

Here are some ideas.
  • Be willing to start conversations with anyone.
The disciples were shocked to find Jesus talking with this sexually promiscuous woman of an ethnic enemy.
  • Adjust your daily life to make conversations possible.
Jesus took time to go to the public water source to get a drink. Coffee breaks and lunch times are usually pretty flexible for us. Maybe you can intentionally invite people to coffee breaks and lunch to start spiritual conversations. Ask a Christian friend to pray for you and hold you accountable to this.
  • Ask thought-out questions.
How is your life?
What is your spiritual background?
Easter season is coming, what are your thoughts about Easter?
Who is Jesus to you?
  • Truly listen and care about them.
Jesus spent the time this woman needed in order to help her accept Jesus as the Messiah. Are you willing to spend multiple coffee breaks and lunches in order to invest in your friends lives to meet the greatest person in the history of the world?

Praying for each of us to have weekly spiritual conversations,
Pastor Chris
