Refuel Daily

Why did Jesus go to Lazarus, Mary and Martha's home?

Was it to get a great meal?
Was it to serve them and help them with something?
Was it to bring the crowds to their home and give them attention of some kind?

Do you remember that Jesus created the best wine people have ever tasted at that wedding? He also fed thousands miraculously. I am sure if He wanted a fantastic meal, He would have created it Himself.

At this point in Jesus' ministry, crowds bombarded Jesus. They wanted Him to speak here, heal this person and do a miracle there. Jesus was being pulled in all directions with a packed schedule. I think Jesus was just trying to get away from the crowds and replenish, refuel, recharge.

God helps us understand about recharging when Jesus asked, "Who touched me?" When they all denied it, Peter said, "Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you."But Jesus said, "Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me."
Luke 8:45-46

I think God is helping us understand about recharging and refueling again as He sought to get away from the overwhelming needs, demands and schedule as He visited Lazarus, Mary and Martha's home.

Why did this home refuel Jesus?
How did this family recharge, re-energize Jesus?

Then as He was there, Jesus had to confront an overwhelmed, overworked, exhausted, frustrated, angry and resentful person in the kitchen. Martha burst with, "Jesus, don't you care?"

What do you mean, Martha, does the Son of God care? He left heaven to come to earth. He will go to the cross for any and every one. He will face evil day in and day out in order to become Savior. Does He care... that is only a question/statement coming from a burnt out, depleted soul.

"Tell her to help me." Another statement telling God what to do and how to do it, revealing a hurt, angry, empty soul.

"Martha, Martha..." It's as if Jesus was helping her face her need to be recharged.

I think Jesus is getting our attention to learn about our souls being full, empty or some where in between. Jesus is helping us to daily evaluate our soul condition; E ----- F gauge.

What is your soul condition right now?
Who is responsible for your soul condition?
How do you refuel?

The sick woman bleeding for over a decade somehow knew, follow Jesus and touch Him.
Mary knew to sit at Jesus feet and listen.
Jesus knew He needed to be with people who helped Him refuel.

Each knew, that they themselves are responsible to refill their souls and that Jesus was the one to refill.

What activities refuel your soul?
What daily, weekly, monthly and annual activities do you do to refuel?

Time with Jesus, the Bible, prayer absolutely essential and the best.
What human friendships refuel you and how often do you connect with them?
What places do you go do get refueled?
What food, exercise and sleep do you need?
What inspires you to the point, your soul is being recharged?

Jesus knew the importance of having a full, recharged soul and the dangers of having an empty, depleted and resentful soul. Let's be people who seek to be refueled every day in order to beautifully impact every person every day.

Refueling,
Pastor Chris

But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things." Luke 10:40-41
