The Pastor Ponders

Who do you trust?

Do you ever feel looked down upon because of your faith in Christ? Do you ever feel like people think you are intellectually inferior because you base your life on Christ and the Bible?

People who do not believe in God as Creator have a math that looks like the following...

No one + Nothing = Everything

While people who believe in God as Creator and the Bible as His book have a math that looks like...

God (of the Bible) + Nothing = Everything

Which takes more faith? Which is more intellectually sound?

Either you believe one or the other. Either you believe in Charles Darwin or God. Have you checked out these two authors? In all my education, I have been drilled with, "You must check out the authors, the sources." Are the sources reliable and trustworthy or not? I was challenged by one of my graduate professors to always compare the authors in competition. Compare Jesus with Muhammad. Compare Jesus with Buddha, with Joseph Smith, and anyone. Charles Darwin compared to God of the Bible.

So who was Charles Darwin as a person?

Did you know that Darwin grew up in the Anglican Church with some kind of Christian faith. He was deeply wounded when his 10 year old daughter, Annie, died which caused him to hate God. (understandably) This along with some other questions and struggles that went unanswered helped change Charles into an agnostic.

Did you know that he loved to kill animals. Charles Darwin’s own words, “Marvelous morning (after ship landed on the Brazilian coast) whooping and killing birds with abandon. I could have killed any number of them with my geological hammer.”

Did you know his emotional and physical challenges he faced? “He suffered from depression, agoraphobia – fear of crowds – insomnia, vision alterations, hallucinations, malaise, vertigo, shaking, tachycardia, fainting spells, shortness of breath, trembling, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, muscle twitches, spasms, tremors, cramps, colic, bloating, headaches, nervous exhaustion, dyspnea, skin blisters, tinnitus, and sensations of loss of consciousness and impending death.”

Did you know his possible death bed conversion?

How about the God of the Bible?
Creator. Sustainer. Giver of life and everything that is good, right, beautiful, amazing, intellectual. Relational walking with Adam and Eve every afternoon in the garden. Giver of choice. Giver of salvation, rescuing Adam and Eve from death. Providing salvation through Jesus Christ. The list can go on and on.
Why did God create? So that He could create a family for Himself. So that He could create a bride (forgiven and redeemed people) for His Son to exist forever in a New Heaven and a New Earth. A place of no more pain, suffering, evil, temptation. A place of sheer joy, excitement and adventure. A place of relationship, laughter and feasting. A place of continual intrigue, learning and growing. A place of intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and celebrating all of the beauty, brilliance, creativity and adventure of who He is.

Who do you trust more, Charles Darwin or God?

There are so many solid, highly educated scientists who trust in God and His account of creation found in Genesis 1-2. No need to fear nor feel inferior.

Johannes Kepler’s belief in a brilliant Creator motivated his work in developing the ideas of the laws of planetary motion with the hope to paint a more detailed picture of the God of the Bible.
Galileo, one of the most influential physicists, astronomers, inventors and scientists, was a devout Christian believer.
Isaac Newton said, “Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain who set the planets in motion. God governs all things and knows all that is or can be done.”
Sir Francis Bacon, Lise Meitner, Stanley Jaki, Mike Hulme, Andrew Pinsent, Francis Collins are some others to name a few.

Putting my faith and mind in trusting God together,
Pastor Chris
